The quality of the hose was not consistent due to tension variations in the wire used in the braid. This led to defects and unacceptable burst pressure.
Problem:
They were using dancer control. Dancer control did not allow them to easily set, change, or control tension.
Solution:
CMC provided them with a new closed-loop control system using a closed loop controller, magnetic particle brakes, and Cleveland-Kidder CR transducers.
Result:
The customer can now set and maintain the tension in the let-off. This has allowed them to supply consistency in the quality of the product. The result has been improved hose reinforcement; fewer wire cross-overs leading to increased burst pressure, longer impulse life, and less braider machine downtime.
