Situation:
The OEM's customers were asking to run lower tensions on the same machine. This would allow them to run a wider range of materials on one machine, saving the expense of purchasing another machine.
Problem:
The existing load cells that they were using had a limited tension range. They could not give them a reliable tension signal at the low tensions. Signal to noise ratio was a problem here, especially when the variable frequency drives were used on their machines.
Solution:
CMC provided the Ultra CLT and Cartridge Transducers and Isolated Din Rail Amplifiers for this application.
Result:
The customer can now run fractional tensions (<1 lb) on their machines with the 25 lb. transducers. Both CLT and Cartridge Style are provided depending on the design of the machine. Low signal strength and noise problems are no longer an issue.

Customer's Comments:
"With the addition of AC variable frequency drives and Cleveland-Kidder Ultra transducers we have increased our performance in ways not thought possible. Applying closed-loop controls with VFD?s was quite a learning curve for us. Noise, inertia, response, and resonant frequencies become major issues when moving to this technology. Theses issues needed to be addressed. Selecting the right vendor as a partner who can help you is critical. CMC has responded with excellent product and application support. They have the solutions."
