Web Tension Control, Printing Press Application: Expanded Tension Range
  • Product Overview
Flexo Press, Expanded Tension Range

An OEM is designing a new flexo press for wider tension ranges. They need to measure and control both high and low tensions.

Problem:

The OEM initially inquired if a dual range tension amplifier was available with high and low tension relay contact inputs that would increase the gain when measuring low tensions. The customer was told that if they used the Ultra line there would no reason to have a dual range amplifier.

Solution:

CMC provided 150 Lb. Ultra Cartridge Transducers and DIN Rail Amplifiers.

Result:

A single load rating (150 lb. transducer) with the Ultra amplifier covers the 40:1 tension range that their customers require. The Ultra provides an inherently stronger signal. The Ultra meets the range without the need to provide a contact input to increase the gain. It eliminates the need for an expensive dual range amplifier and the cost of adding relays. It also removes operator intervention in deciding when to switch modes.

"The Ultra gives us the expanded range that our customers were asking for without the added expense and nuisance of a dual range amplifier. I hadn?t known that a load cell with the Ultra?s 40:1 range existed. It is incredible. The Ultra passed all our tests with flying colors, and we are now incorporating it as a standard on our flexographic printing presses."
