Situation:

The customer could not maintain consistent tension on the intermediate roller section of a large fine paper line (brita coating). This limited line speed to 300 fpm. They needed to run 1000 fpm to be competitive on a new product.

Problem:

They were using a pneumatically controlled shoe brake with the operator manually controlling the brake with a potentiometer.

Solution:

CMC provided two UPB 1000 lb Load Cells and its closed loop WebPro Controller configured for the intermediate tension mode.

Result:

This tension control solution provided fast response and consistent tension allowing the customer to run 1000 fpm and produce high quality product.
