Situation:
In paper mills, the amount of heat transfer and drying efficiency is dependent on the amount of tension on the paper web as it passes over the dryer drums. The operator manually adjusts the machine to get the proper tension. This customer had no way of measuring tension. They were wasting energy when the tension was too low. They were breaking webs when the tension was too high.
Problem:
The paper mill environment is very hot and wet, and requires a load cell that can withstand the environment. Finding space to mount a load cell is also a problem and requires a low profile load cell.
Solution:
CMC provided 500 lb. Washdown Duty UPB Ultra Load Cells and Tension Indicators.
Result:
Being completely sealed, the Washdown Duty UPB Ultra Load Cell is able to withstand the wet environment. The temperature extremes are handled by the Ultra's superior temperature compensation feature. Finding mounting space was less of a problem due to its low profile. The optional Large Display feature on the Tension Indicator is easily read by the operator so he knows the tension at all times and can make the appropriate adjustments. Significant energy savings are realized.
