New Manufacturing Process for Non-Wovens

"We have been using LVDT?s on our legacy machines because the LVDT?s give a 0-10VDC output signal which is insensitive to noise. The problem with the old LVDT load cells is that they have a very sluggish response. This limits our ability to adequately control tensions in our new machines which run at higher lines speeds and accelerations. The Ultra Slim Cells are so much more responsive. We are able to accelerate to the limit and the tension is dead on. Plus we have experienced absolutely no noise and no drift.?

Situation:

The OEM is building a new lab machine to test their customer's product. Sections of this machine are also prototypes and will evolve into production machines. They need to control ¼ lb. to 10 lb. of tension and require a quick response from the load cells.

Problem:

The customer utilizes AC servo's which allow them to accelerate very rapidly but generate an extreme amount of electrical noise. While noise rejection is adequate, the response time of a competitor?s LVDT load cells that they presently use is too sluggish to give acceptable tension control.

Solution:

CMC provided eight 10 lb. MWF Ultra Slim Cell Transducers and four Ultra Din Rail Amplifiers.

Result:

The Ultra Slim Cell and Amplifier provided both the response and tension range to meet the stringent requirements of this new machine. The prototype machine passed its evaluation and is now a production machine. To a large extent, this is due to the outstanding performance of the Cleveland-Kidder load cells.
