In the HVAC industry, the design concept has been to make the VFD as frugally and as compact as possible. Many manufacturers are now providing products that have a 110% overload for one minute at 35 degree C ambient. CMC uses the S5 VFD with 150% overload for one minute in 40 degree C ambient conditions.
The S5 VFD is a space vector drive. Space vector technology provides a voltage pattern to the motor that enables the motor to run cooler than in comparison to conventional flux vector algorithms. With the highest switching frequency the motor runs much quieter.
The people who have to install and maintain these products can barely get their hands into the enclosures. CMC has designed an HVAC drive that makes it easier. Conduits can be installed on the top or bottom of the VFD enclosure and there is plenty of room for the maintenance person IF they should ever have to service the VFD. For long life, for applications 1-30 HP.
