THE PROBLEM:
The United States Postal Service existing controls
platform was obsolete and the software development
company was not developing the next
generation of software.
CLEVELAND MOTION CONTROLS SOLUTION:
FALCON (Programmable Automation Controller)
with motion interface and Ethernet I/O was proposed.
The FALCON software with IEC-61131-3
code portability, integrates Process Control,
Motion Control, HMI and Open communication
into one easy-to-use platform. With its ability to
integrate logic functions, motion and visualization
(HMI) in one platform it eliminated the
need for a separate PLC, panel PC and motion
system. Since no software development investment
had to be made, not only did the OEM
save money, but also saved engineering, programming
and commissioning time.
WHY FALCON WAS CHOSEN:
Carter Control Solutions made the decision to
move forward with FALCON because they realized:
- A decreased installation cost
- A decrease in future maintenance cost
- Portability of code: very little investment from
the OEM on the software development as
FALCON imported the existing obsolete USPS
software.
APPLICATION SUCCESS:
"CMC was selected because of the ability of the
FALCON product to import the existing application
from the obsolete controller. We were able
to upgrade the controller to the latest technology,
and obtained an improved throughput and
was able to maximize the Uptime performance".
