APPLICATION SUCCESS:

CMC successfully upgraded the Metal Saw in Bralco’s La Mirada, CA facility and solved their control system issues. The project was such a success that CMC was awarded the metal saw retrofits in Bralco’s Texax and Kansas facilities.

APPLICATION - BACKGROUND SUMMARY

Bralco Metals was operating numerous automated metal saw machines with outdated, unreliable controls. The mechanics of the machines were in good shape so new machines were not the answer, but updating the controls was critical!

THE PROBLEM:

The servo motors, servo amplifiers and motion control system were out-of-date, unreliable and difficult to get service support in a timely fashion. The control system downtime was effecting Bralco’s ability to deliver quality product on-time. To complicate matters, Bralco was operating multiple locations throughout the Western and Midwestern United States that required updated controls.

CLEVELAND MOTION CONTROLS SOLUTION:

A complete control solution was provided by CMC using FALCON, Motion interface, PLC I/O, Servo Amplifiers and MDM5000 AC brushless servo motors.

CMC’s service staff worked on-location to calibrate and tune the new controls to maximize Bralco’s process accuracy and throughput.

FALCON is a complete Programmable Automation Controller – PAC Package (IEC-61131-3) that integrates Process Control, Motion Controls, HMI and Open Communications into one easy-to-use platform. With the ability to integrate logic functions, motion and Visualization (HMI) in one platform, it eliminated the need for separate PLC, panel PC and motion systems. This saved engineering, programming and commissioning time as only one platform was needed.
