APPLICATION SUCCESS:
The machine runs better than when it was new and allows Specialty Metals to better serve their customers and increase profitability...A GREAT COMBINATION!
APPLICATION - BACKGROUND SUMMARY
Specialty Metals Processing (SMP) in Hudson, OH had purchased two used Cincinnati Cut-to-Length lines. The mechanics of the process lines were in good shape, however, the control system was very outdated and needed to be replaced.
THE PROBLEM:
SMP knew that the existing Hyperloop drive system was obsolete and would take significant effort and expense to make it run; most likely at low performance. In order to increase performance, the control system needed to be replaced.
CLEVELAND MOTION CONTROLS SOLUTION:
A complete control system retrofit was provided by Cleveland Motion Controls’ Automation Solutions Group. The new package included: new digital drives, FALCON cut-to-length motion controller with operator HMI and shear control. The new control system replaced the feeder DC motor with a high performance AC vector motor and drive for even better accuracies.
As an added bonus, CMC was also able to add auto-position controls for the edge trimmers, stacker side skirts and endstop. SMP was also provided complete new documentation for the control system
