APPLICATION - BACKGROUND SUMMARY
Wilkinson needed to run both the leveler and the flattener down, penetrating the steel. Their existing control system never allowed them to do this with any consistency. Wilkinson even had a local integrator replace the leveler drive in an attempt to solve the problem. Unfortunately, the new drive did not solve the machine problem.
THE PROBLEM:

CLEVELAND MOTION CONTROLS SOLUTION:
A complete system retrofit was provided by Cleveland Motion Controls’ Automation Solutions Group. The new package included: new digital drives, FALCON cut-to-length motion controller with operator HMI, shear control; all housed in a new enclosure. CMC incorporated its proven phase-lock-loop control to precisely synchronize the flattener and leveler sections.
As an added bonus, CMC was able to duplicate the leveler tilt and backup control readouts on it HMI which eliminated the need for a third party screen. Wilkinson was also provided with a new documentation package for the control system.
